Posted: September 10th, 2010 | Author: Tamara | Filed under: Interesting Posts | No Comments »You have probably heard people chatting about wheatgrass powder at some point at some point in the last few years. Maybe it is in a juice bar or from a friend or family member already taking some of the many various types of wheat grass but if you are like the majority of people, you may still not understand wheat grass or the natural healing power wheatgrass possesses.
wheat grass is basically the blades of grass from wheatgrain. When the wheatgrain is soaked and planted it begins to develop shoots within a few days. A few days after this the shoots grow into blades of lush green grass. After as little as 8-10 days the wheat grass can be ready for harvesting, At this stage it is worth noting that although the wheatgrass already posseses high levels of enzymes it hasn’t had the required time to develop complex carbohydrates which can be found in wheatgrass grown over winter.
Once the wheatgrass has been processed it is usually processed into numerous forms, which often include wheat grass powder (Typically made by drying and crushing the wheat grass blades into a fine powder) wheat grass capsules (simply the powder filled into capsules for ease of consumption) wheatgrass tablets (again often the powder cold pressed into tablet form) and wheat grass juice. (The wheatgrass leaves are put through a specialist wheatgrass juicer which grinds the juice from the wheat grass without destroying vital nutrients.)
Most forms of wheat grass are packed with a wealth of health boosting attributes, with a wide range of minerals, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. Wheatgrass also consists of at least 70% chlorophyll, which is extremely similar to blood due to its DNA structure. This means that our bodies can absorbs the nutrients in wheatgrass extemely easily.
wheatgrass powder has been used for decades but it has only recently reached the UK and you can now find it online and at almost all health food shops. It has been in use for many medical conditions and can be applied on the skin for external skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Taken internally it can help cleanse the blood stream replenishing it with important nutrients that are required for optimum health.
